Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors put in an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality many podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with a concentration on concerns involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to address complications stretching from commonplace ailments like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience crucial to perform surgery on those concerns that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and minimize the risk of numerous problems which the feet usually encounter.
