Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote approximately 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and several podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained considerable medical education with an emphasis on issues involving the ankles and feet. They are studied to manage difficulties ranging from common ailments like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical training which supply them the skill needed to execute surgery on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and defend against a large number of complications which the feet routinely experience.
