Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend an average of ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually quite a number podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with a main focus on complications involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to treat complications varying from familiar afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical education which supply them the experience necessary to conduct surgery on those issues that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and avoid many issues which the feet frequently encounter.
