Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest around ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and actually several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired extensive healthcare training with a stress on problems involving the feet and ankles. They are educated to treat problems stretching from common disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which provide them the skill needed to carry out surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet typically experience.
