Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in an average of ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs lie within these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired substantial medical training with an attention to on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to deal with problems extending from commonplace problems like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical training which furnish them the experience crucial to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of complications which the feet usually encounter.
