Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote about ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received considerable medical instruction with a focus on issues concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to address conditions ranging from normal ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which provide them the prior experience required to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and defend against a large number of conditions which the feet normally encounter.
