Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry programmes lie inside these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired significant medical instruction with an importance on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are studied to address difficulties extending from familiar problems for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which give them the expertise necessary to execute surgical treatment on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent many troubles which the feet generally experience.
