Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and many podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained encompassing health care education with a concentration on complications regarding the ankles and feet. They are skilled to manage concerns varying from simple problems like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical education which give them the prior experience required to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities facilitates a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and avoid a large number of troubles which the feet routinely encounter.
