Medical professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and a number of podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired extensive medical training with a concentration on conditions involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to manage difficulties ranging from basic problems for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more puzzling for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which give them the expertise essential to conduct surgery on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and help prevent countless complications which the feet generally experience.
