Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Camrose concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in around a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in reality a number of podiatry training programs are contained inside these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive healthcare training with a stress on complications involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to deal with conditions varying from familiar ailments such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more perplexing like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which furnish them the skill needed to perform surgery on those issues that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet typically experience.
