Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in about a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in reality numerous podiatry programs are contained within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received significant health care training with an emphasis on concerns involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to treat difficulties ranging from standard afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which supply them the expertise crucial to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of conditions which the feet typically experience.
