Physicians at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact many podiatry programmes are located within these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received substantial medical education with a focus on problems concerning the ankles and feet. They are trained to care for issues stretching from conventional problems for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical education which give them the experience necessary to perform surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid countless complications which the feet normally encounter.
