Doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired encompassing medical instruction with an emphasis on concerns involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to care for difficulties varying from common disorders such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the skill needed to conduct surgery on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against countless troubles which the feet usually encounter.
