Doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained significant medical training with an attention to on concerns involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to treat concerns varying from simple disorders like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more complex for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical instruction which supply them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and prevent a large number of complications which the feet commonly encounter.
