Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend an average of ten years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received wide-ranging medical instruction with a concentration on issues involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to handle difficulties varying from simple conditions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the experience crucial to conduct surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of countless problems which the feet normally encounter.
