Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and actually several podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired substantial healthcare training with an emphasis on problems involving the feet and ankles. They are trained to address conditions varying from common conditions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are a lot more complex for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical training which provide them the expertise necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many conditions which the feet generally encounter.
