Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They invest about ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to standard medical school and in point of fact many podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have gained significant health care instruction with an emphasis on concerns pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to treat problems varying from general ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which provide them the prior experience required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and defend against numerous complications which the feet usually encounter.
