Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received thorough medical training with a main focus on problems involving the feet and ankles. They are trained to manage difficulties ranging from normal ailments such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical training which supply them the practical experience needed to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet usually experience.
