Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend about a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes are located within these schools. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired extensive medical training with a concentration on complications involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are instructed to handle issues varying from basic afflictions for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are a lot more complex for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which provide them the experience crucial to carry out surgery on those issues that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and avoid a large number of conditions which the feet generally experience.
