Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in an average of a decade in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and several podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received encompassing medical instruction with an attention to on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are studied to treat problems ranging from normal afflictions for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more sophisticated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which provide them the experience required to conduct surgery on those concerns that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and defend against a large number of troubles which the feet usually experience.
