Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in approximately a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry programs are contained inside these institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired extensive healthcare instruction with an emphasis on concerns concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to manage difficulties stretching from usual ailments such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical education which provide them the prior experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and defend against many issues which the feet frequently encounter.
