Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located within these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired wide-ranging medical instruction with an emphasis on complications regarding the ankles and feet. They are taught to handle difficulties ranging from conventional afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which supply them the expertise necessary to carry out surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against a large number of issues which the feet routinely encounter.
