Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and a number of podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have obtained significant medical education with an emphasis on conditions involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to deal with issues varying from simple conditions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more obscure for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which provide them the expertise crucial to execute surgery on those conditions that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against numerous problems which the feet normally experience.
