Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend around 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in reality various podiatry programs are located within these institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive medical training with an emphasis on complications concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to address complications extending from usual disorders such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more complex such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical instruction which give them the practical experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and avoid many issues which the feet usually experience.
