Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in around 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and actually a number of podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on complications pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to handle complications ranging from conventional problems for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical education which provide them the prior experience necessary to conduct surgery on those issues that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against a large number of complications which the feet normally encounter.
