Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote an average of a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and actually many podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have gained thorough healthcare instruction with an importance on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to care for conditions stretching from usual conditions for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which furnish them the skill necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and prevent a large number of issues which the feet normally encounter.
