Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They devote approximately 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received considerable medical instruction with a concentration on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat problems ranging from regular problems for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more complex such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical training which provide them the expertise needed to perform surgery on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors likewise have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and help prevent many problems which the feet frequently experience.
