Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They put in approximately a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry training programs lie within these institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to address conditions ranging from general afflictions for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more intricate such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical instruction which give them the practical experience necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to create footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of many problems which the feet normally experience.
