Specialists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend around 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are contained within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired encompassing health care training with a stress on issues involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to treat issues stretching from usual ailments like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical training which give them the skill necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those issues that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and prevent a large number of troubles which the feet generally encounter.
