Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote about a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in reality a number of podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained thorough medical training with a stress on issues involving the ankles and feet. They are educated to care for problems varying from commonplace ailments such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which provide them the practical experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and prevent many problems which the feet generally encounter.
