Specialists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs lie inside these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained extensive medical training with a focus on problems involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to deal with concerns ranging from normal problems for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which supply them the practical experience essential to execute surgery on those complications that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities facilitates a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and help prevent a large number of problems which the feet generally encounter.
