Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors devote around ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually many podiatry programs are contained within these schools. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received wide-ranging health care training with a concentration on complications concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are studied to deal with difficulties extending from standard problems for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical instruction which give them the expertise essential to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors additionally have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and prevent many conditions which the feet typically experience.
