Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors devote approximately a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received comprehensive health care training with an attention to on problems involving the feet and ankles. They are trained to treat concerns ranging from standard disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which give them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against many conditions which the feet commonly encounter.
