Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs are located within these schools. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained extensive medical training with a focus on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to manage complications ranging from commonplace problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which furnish them the experience required to carry out surgery on those complications that are best managed through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and help prevent many problems which the feet generally encounter.
