Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in approximately ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry programmes are contained inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received considerable medical training with a stress on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to address conditions ranging from general conditions for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical instruction which supply them the experience required to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and defend against many conditions which the feet typically experience.
