Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote approximately a decade in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programs are located within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained extensive health care training with an importance on concerns pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to deal with issues stretching from regular conditions like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more complicated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical instruction which give them the experience necessary to conduct surgery on those troubles that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and prevent a large number of troubles which the feet typically encounter.
