Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programs are located within these institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical instruction with a focus on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to address difficulties extending from standard disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which provide them the experience needed to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
