Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in around 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are contained within these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired significant medical education with a main focus on conditions regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat problems stretching from usual disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more perplexing like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which supply them the prior experience vital to conduct surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to create footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and help prevent numerous conditions which the feet normally encounter.
