Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They devote around 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually several podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. Upon getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have obtained comprehensive medical training with an importance on issues concerning the ankles and feet. They are educated to deal with concerns ranging from regular afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the experience necessary to perform surgery on those complications that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against many issues which the feet typically encounter.
