Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend around 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in reality various podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained considerable health care instruction with a stress on conditions involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to care for issues ranging from conventional ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical education which provide them the expertise required to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many complications which the feet typically encounter.
