Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors devote about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality many podiatry programmes are contained inside these academic institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive health care training with an emphasis on problems involving the feet and ankles. They are studied to treat problems ranging from familiar afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which provide them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and protect against numerous issues which the feet typically encounter.
