Foot Institute Doctors spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and various podiatry programs are located within these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received encompassing health care training with a stress on complications regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to handle problems varying from familiar ailments such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which supply them the skill essential to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent many conditions which the feet routinely experience.
