Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors devote an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and actually a number of podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received substantial health care instruction with a main focus on complications involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to care for problems stretching from typical afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical education which give them the experience needed to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Foot doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and prevent many troubles which the feet usually encounter.
