Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs lie inside these schools. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received extensive health care training with a main focus on issues regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to manage problems stretching from conventional disorders like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are a lot more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which supply them the experience needed to perform surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and defend against numerous complications which the feet normally experience.
