Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They put in around a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually quite a number podiatry programs are located inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained comprehensive health care education with a stress on problems regarding the ankles and feet. They are trained to deal with problems extending from simple disorders like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which furnish them the practical experience necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of many conditions which the feet generally encounter.
