Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They devote approximately a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive medical training with a concentration on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are instructed to address problems varying from general ailments like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more challenging like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical training which provide them the expertise needed to conduct surgery on those issues that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and defend against many complications which the feet routinely experience.
