Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained wide-ranging medical instruction with a stress on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat conditions extending from simple afflictions like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which furnish them the prior experience necessary to carry out surgery on those concerns that are best managed through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems permits a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and protect against many issues which the feet routinely experience.
