Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors spend approximately a decade in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained thorough medical instruction with a focus on concerns concerning the ankles and feet. They are qualified to treat difficulties stretching from conventional problems like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which furnish them the prior experience necessary to carry out surgery on those concerns that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of troubles which the feet usually encounter.
