Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend an average of a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles usual medical school and in reality several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received considerable medical education with an emphasis on complications pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to treat issues ranging from general ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical instruction which provide them the experience necessary to carry out surgery on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet generally encounter.
