Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained encompassing medical instruction with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are studied to address problems varying from conventional disorders for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which furnish them the prior experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and reduce the chances of countless complications which the feet typically encounter.
